Frequently asked questions

How ConvertFin converts bank statements, and what happens to your data.

Is ConvertFin free?

Yes. You can convert bank statements for free every day, with no account and no watermark, up to five a day. A paid Pro plan that would lift that daily limit is planned, but it is not available yet, so there is nothing to buy.

Is it safe to convert my bank statement here?

Yes. Your PDF is read entirely inside your own browser using JavaScript. The file is never uploaded to a server, so your account numbers and balances never leave your device. You can confirm this yourself by opening your browser Network tab while you convert.

Do you upload or store my PDF?

No. There is no upload step and nothing is stored. When you close the tab, the statement and the extracted data are gone. The conversion runs locally, so it also works offline once the page has loaded.

Which banks are supported?

ConvertFin reads the layout of a statement rather than a fixed template per bank, so it works with most PDF statements, including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Citi and hundreds more. See the supported banks page for details and per-bank notes.

What formats can I export?

You can export a clean Excel workbook (.xlsx) with numeric amounts, a CSV file, or an OFX, QBO or QIF file that imports into accounting tools like QuickBooks, Xero, Wave, Quicken and GnuCash. They all come from the same in-browser conversion.

Can it read scanned or photographed statements?

Not directly. ConvertFin extracts the real text in a digital PDF, which is the kind your bank gives you when you download a statement. A scanned or photographed statement is just an image with no text to read, so it would need to be run through OCR first.

What columns do I get in the output?

Each transaction becomes one row with Date, Description, Amount and Balance columns. Card statements that have no running balance simply leave the balance column empty; the date, description and amount are still complete.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can drop in a PDF and download the result without signing up. There is no paid plan to sign up for either — Pro is planned but not available yet.
